“Wounds” by Richard Schertzer

Richard Schertzer’s new short film is an intimate film, touching and harsh, brutal and delicate at the same time. In a wonderful forest where nature is spectator and observer, a man and a woman meet, in a moment that recalls a new genesis, as if these two were nothing but new Adam and Eve, the promise of a destined humanity.

The menacing and distant echoes of the current Covid pandemic resound, but the reference is never explicit. Schertzer is rather interested in poetically reworking the inner repercussions of this constant sense of death, which while on the one hand seem to distance us, at the same time create a hopeful tension towards human reunion.

Perhaps the availability of better technical means could have given the film an extra boost, but from a purely narrative point of view, this film is certainly an interesting work.
