“SirCooly’s Valentine Disaster” by Nolan Schmidt & Christina Barton

OMG! After the Christmas special we didn’t expect SirCooly’s to return so soon but we are always happy to have him back with us. Nolan Schmidt’s new special, this time co-directed with Christina Barton, is certainly our favorite. In fact, the lightness and irony of this film reach a level of dynamism and freshness that is really pleasant and fun. Previous films had already shown clear progress in writing and constructing comic tempos, and with this film probably Schmidt and Barton have reached a more than satisfactory level.

We find the same team of actors we had known from previous films and certainly this helps to maintain a well-established pace. The introduction of Jon Vander Horn in the part of Bonfire Billy, however, is the real, surprising novelty of this Valentine’s Day special. In addition to hilarious expressive abilities, Bonfire Billy’s character adds a shrewd and pleasantly ironic subtext to the film, that jokes about the masks and stereotypes of the vast American culture.

Easter is approaching and we therefore hope to see SirCooly and his gang again soon!
