“Project BAU” by Sajan Jose

This delicate rural elegy, “Project Bau”, is an intimate portrait of solitude and grace, narrated with the discretion and sensitivity of a director who is first and foremost an author, for his ability to outline complex narrative nuances, which portray the human psychology with delicacy and intelligence. The story of Peter, a suffering and lonely old man, one day is intertwined with the fate of Bau, a dog, who, like Peter, is looking for a new place in the world. Sajan Jose tells us this story with the awareness of a silent and universal everyday life, which concerns us all, and in which small miracles and unexpected delicacies occur every day. Thus, in this film, shot and lit with elegance, emotions tiptoe and “explode” in great silence.

“Project Bau” is like a word of comfort whispered in the ear of each of us, and in its simplicity the full value of its poetry is expressed. Here, simplicity is recognizable, and so the story becomes universal in scope. This film, transcending the language of cinema, is in the first instance an act of love for humanity.
