“The last ride” by John Jiang

“The last ride” by John Jiang

Shot in a dark night surrounded by the colorful light of a metropolis, “The last ride” by John Jiang is a real drama short. We say “real” because it is very hard in these days to find a drama that is really able to show you two characters with a deep, tri-dimensional psychology, putting them in a contrast that lets the story develop in a natural, clear way, without forcing it.

Framed by a beautiful cinematography that uses the dark, gloomy and fascinating side of the metropolis at night, and well acted by its protagonist, the short is directed with a good pace that takes us by hand and makes us wonder through the night.

The ending somehow also teaches us a moral lesson about greed and money, but it does it with delicacy, through the transformation of the leading character. Overall we had the feeling that it was a very solid film, that could have further benefited of more funding.

We hope that John Jiang will have the chance to shoot more drama shorts like this.
